The Saturation slider affects the intensity of the colour in an image – it makes the reds redder, greens greener and so on. You don’t have complete control over individual colours, which can mean some become over-saturated and over-processed.
The Vibrance slider is essentially an intelligent version of Saturation and is unique to Adobe. The Vibrance slider adjusts the saturation of an image to minimise clipping when colours are close to full saturation.
Increasing the Vibrance will increase the saturation of colours that are less saturated, more than colours that are already saturated – this will prevent colours from looking over-processed. Vibrance also prevents skin tones from becoming over-saturated and looking unnatural.
